FUEL FREEDOM  -- Senator Lugar has been leading the way for energy security with bipartisanship for more than a decade.  Lugar began the quest for FUEL FREEDOM in 1996, when the average price of gasoline was $0.97 per gallon.  He recognized that America’s dependence on foreign oil threatens our national security and understood that a fuel source created by agricultural products could inject new resources into American farms.

I would like to thank the more than 1.1 million Hoosiers who went to the polls on Election Day and cast their vote for my reelection.  I appreciate your support and faith in my service.

I look forward to discussing the important and constructive ideas we had during our campaign in the United States Senate as I proudly continue to represent Indiana.

In addition, I particularly appreciated the support and endorsements from members of the Indiana State Teachers Association and the Indiana Farm Bureau.
